Avatar and Beyond...

 

अवतार पूरी ट्रिब्यूट लगी थी अमेरिका एशिया अफ्रीका के लिए, जब पहली बार 2009 में देखा था. उस वक्त कोलोनियल हिस्ट्री की इतनी समझ नहीं थी. लेकिन जो थी, जितना समझता था वह मेरे दृश्य पटल पर उग आ रहा था. 

 नॉर्थ अमेरिका... मरते नेटिव रेड इंडियंस, बढ़ती यूरोपियन कॉलोनीज, खनिज, अयस्कों का दोहन, वनों की सफाई... वाइल्डलाइफ का धीमा खात्मा...

अफ्रीका... गोल्ड कोस्ट (Gold Coast), आइवरी कोस्ट (Ivory Coast) , स्लेव कोस्ट (Slave Coast), ग्रेन कोस्ट (Grain Coast)... साउथ अफ्रीका... 20% गोरों के पास 80% भूमि... 80% संसाधन (Resources)...

इंडिया...लूट खसोट, मार-काट... 1857 विद्रोह... बहादुर शाह जफर के बेटों के थाली में परोसे गए सिर... निर्माण हत्याएं... तीर कमान लिए लड़ते, ब्रिटिश गोलियों से भूने जाते हजारों संथाल... मात्र 17 साल के लड़के खुदीराम बोस का फांसी पर झूलता मृत शरीर... और जाने क्या-क्या...

अवतार में पंडोरा ग्रह वासियों का जो प्रकृति से कनेक्शन था वह मुझे अफ्रीका के ट्राइब्स का... भारतीय संस्कृति का, नेटिव इंडियंस का प्रकृति के अत्यधिक करीब होना याद दिला रहा था...

अवतार एक बहुत बड़े कैनवास पर बनाई गई कोई पेंटिंग सी है. जो नीले रंग में कोलोनियल हिस्ट्री में झेली यातनाओं के सुर्ख लाल रंग को बखूबी प्रदर्शित करती है.

अवतार-2 (Avatar: The Way of Water) उस कैनवास का एक्सपेंशन बस लगती है. इसलिए जब मेरे साथ फिल्म देखने गई मेरी सासू मां कहती हैं कि 'मुझे ज्यादा समझ नहीं आ रही है' तो मैं बस कहता हूं कि :जो नीली आकृतियां हैं उन्हें भारतीय मान लीजिए और जो इंसानी आकृतियां हैं उन्हें ब्रिटिश राज... अपको समझ आने लगेगा.'

 मैं कटनी में हूं. फिल्म देख कर बाहर निकलते लॉर्ड स्लीमन आंखों के सामने दिखने लगता है. लाशें... पेड़ के दोनों ओर लटकी ठगी बंजारे पिंडारियों की कई सौ लाशें... कटनी का मुड़वारा स्टेशन आंखों के सामने घूमने लगता है... 1857 के विद्रोहियों के इतने नरमुंड पेड़ों पर लटके पड़े हैं कि इस जगह का नाम ही मुड़वारा पड़ गया है! विजयराघौगढ़ किले में धंसी गोलियां... लाशों से बना टीला... राजा सरजू प्रसाद सिंह का मृत शरीर... सब आंखों के सामने घूम गया है.

अवतार, अवतार-2 बस ग्राफिक्स, विजुअल्स के लिए ही नहीं देखी जानी चाहिए. ये फिल्में डॉक्यूमेंटेशन है मनुष्यता के साथ किए गए अपराध का, मानव के लालच का, दासप्रथा का, जुल्मों का और उससे अधिक उठ खड़े होने वाले उन चंद लोगों का जो जुर्म के खिलाफ खड़े हुए लड़े भिड़े और अनजान मौत ही मर गए.

Gaurav Solanki की पहली कहानी मैंने 'चालीस' पढ़ी थी.  फिर 'हिसार में हाहाकार' पढ़ी,  लगा कि ये लड़का सच लिख देता है,  जैसा होता है वैसे ही.
सच मतलब कुछ की भाषा में डार्क ट्रुथ ऑफ द सोसायटी.  उससे conversations हुए तो ये लगा भी. 
Article 15 उसकी लिखी एक बेहतरीन फिल्म है.  सच जो कि लेयर्स में है,  नग्न है और एक युवा अधिकारी जिसकी खोज में है.

सच जो उसके बिल्कुल करीब है, साथ में जीप में चलता है,  लेकिन उसे ढूंढना और खोजना बेहद मुश्किल है.

हर सच को छुपाने एक पूरी जमात खड़ी होती है,  यहाँ भी है.

एक दलित क्रान्तिकारी भी है,  एक बेहद intelligent स्टूडेंट रहा है लेकिन कास्ट सिस्टम में कई प्रतिभाओं की तरह ही पिस गया आदमी.

हालांकि फिल्म में ये किरदार बहुत नहीं उभर पाया है.  उसके आने से अंत तक बहुत ज्यादा पता नहीं चलता.  हम उसकी हत्या से पहले उसके dialogues तक ज्यादा जुड़े महसूस नहीं कर पाते.

ऑफिसर और उसकी गर्लफ्रेन्ड के बीच के conversations फिल्म का बेहतरीन पार्ट हैं और अखबार के पेज-3 और पेज-7 के बीच के पेज लगते हैं. समझने लायक,  सुनने लायक,  गुढने लायक.
 ये 'गांवो में क्या हो रहा है और शहर तक क्या सच पहुँच रहा है' वाला अंतर है.

ये पुलिस अधिकारी कोई सिम्बा या सिंघम नहीं है.  एक साधारण युवा जो ट्रेनिंग के बाद अपनी पहली पोस्टिंग पे आया है.  किर दार सच के इतने करीब है कि Vipin की पहली पोस्टिंग की कहानियों की याद दिलाता है.

कई जगह पर किताबी हो जाने के बाद भी ये फिल्म एक बेहतरीन सिनेमा है.

Caste के अंदर caste,  category के अंदर sub-category की बात करते,  उनके अंतर  उजागर करते हमें फ्रेम दर फ्रेम में सोचते रहने को मजबूर करती है.

ये फिल्म Reservation के खिलाफ आंदोलित युवाओं को धैर्य रखने को कह सकती है.  उन्हें अपने दूषण की और झांकने का मौका देती है.
ये फिल्म 'Elite' दलित तबके को भी ये अधिकार खुद छोड़ निचले तबके को पहुंचाने की सलाह हो सकती है. निचले स्तर पे काम करने की सलाह हो सकती है. (हालांकि फिल्म खुद ये कह देती है कि जो दलित व्यक्ति ऊपर उठ के जाता है वो नीचे हेय दृष्टि से देखना शुरू कर देता है.)

फिल्म अन्य कारणों के अलावा इस दशक की सबसे अच्छी सिनेमाटोग्राफी के लिए भी याद की जाएगी.

हम सबका हमारे नग्न सच को एक बार देखने जाना तो बनता है.

15. Prohibition of discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth
(1) The State shall not discriminate against any citizen on grounds only of religion, race, caste, sex, place of birth or any of them
(2) No citizen shall, on grounds only of religion, race, caste, sex, place of birth or any of them, be subject to any disability, liability, restriction or condition with regard to
(a) access to shops, public restaurants, hotels and palaces of public entertainment; or
(b) the use of wells, tanks, bathing ghats, roads and places of public resort maintained wholly or partly out of State funds or dedicated to the use of the general public
(3) Nothing in this article shall prevent the State from making any special provision for women and children

3 Films

Three Films. Just Three Films!? Its really a tough task and for me its toughest task. I feel, everyone puts their creativity and all efforts (except some commercial films) and we need to respect everyone's efforts. Every year we make 500+ movies in India and 3000+ in the world. So selecting just three from the beginning is a tough task. I watched films from Korea, Brazil, China, Thailand, France, Italy, Iran, UK, USA, Mexico and Australia and in Indian languages Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. Subtitles help in understanding another language films but  I guess understanding original dialogues will make films more entertaining.

1. Juno: A 2007 release Hollywood film. 19 year old Ellen Page (that time) played a 16 yeas old pregnant high-schooler Juno Macguff. The acting skills of Ellen Page make you her fan. Being Indian I felt more attracted and emotionally attached to the issue. 

2. Tare Zameen Par: Lot of people said lot of things about film. I just say, I am hosteller since the age of 10.

3. Life Is Beautiful:  (Italian: La vita è bella) is a 1997 Italian tragicomedy comedy-drama film directed by and starring Roberto Benigni. Benigni plays Guido Orefice, a Jewish Italian book shop owner, who must employ his fertile imagination to shield his son from the horrors of internment in a Nazi concentration camp. Part of the film came from Benigni's own family history; before Roberto's birth, his father had survived three years of internment at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.

The film was a critical and financial success, winning Benigni the Academy Award for Best Actor at the 71st Academy Awards as well as the Academy Award for Best Original Dramatic Score and the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. (WikiPedia)
